And the results are in! Blakeslee Vineyard Estate, located in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, brought home two gold medals and a silver in the 2017 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.

• • The 2015 White Pinot Noir, a relatively uncommon varietal, was awarded a Gold Medal in the category of “Other White Varietals.”
  • The 2015 Rose’ of Pinot Noir was honored with a Gold Medal in the “Dry Rose/Blush” category.
  • The 2014 Estate Reserve Chardonnay was awarded a Silver Medal in the “Chardonnay $42+” category.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition is the largest competition of American wines in the world. Sixty-three judges take four days to taste 4,235 wines from more than 1,500 wineries across the country to determine the best wines in the nation. In total, more than 7,000 wines from 28 states were entered. The judges are professionals in the wine trade, education, media, retail and hospitality industries and hail from all over the country. The judging took place at the Cloverdale, CA Citrus Fairgrounds in Sonoma County.

There are 50 categories overall, with the judges considering 20 to 100 wines in each category. The best representative wines in their category were awarded Bronze, Silver, Gold or “Double Gold” (equivalent to a unanimous rating by all panel members) medals.
